stillOS is one of the most ambitious Linux desktop projects I’ve seen in a while.
Cameron Knauff says he spent 3 years building a distro aimed at something Linux still rarely nails: a consumer ready desktop that is stable, maintenance free, and easy enough for ordinary people to live on full time.
The idea is simple but important. Use AlmaLinux and bootc for a reliable atomic base, pair it with GNOME in a friendlier layout, add native feeling web apps through SWAI, a curated software centre through stillCenter, and a developer focused terminal that leans on containers instead of encouraging people to poke at the host system.
Linux does not just need more distros. It needs more projects asking what life is like for the person who wants their computer to just work.
Could something like stillOS help Linux finally break out of the tinkerer bubble?
