Of course it does. We have consistently selected for politicians who conflate Israel's interests with our own national interests. Just look at all of the religious fanatics, in the US government, who think promoting Israel Über Alles will bring the Second Coming of Christ.
Including even some Catholics, who appear to have completely lost the plot. The cringe is real.
