Today I added Proportional Longitudinal Transformation to my boat hull design app. We can now:

- Lengthen or shorten an existing hull without returning to Setup and rebuilding it.
- Target the measured length on deck (LOD), hull length overall (LOA), or longitudinal datum span.
- Scale the entire hull proportionally so every longitudinal position retains the same percentage of the hull’s length.
- Alternatively, change only the forward or aft region while preserving the rest of the hull.
- Keep selected interior control points fixed while the surrounding geometry transforms.
- Choose whether manual weight locations move proportionally or remain fixed.
- Preview the resulting dimensions and predicted displacement before committing.
- Keep calibrated reference drawings fixed while the hull changes.
- Automatically regenerate stations, transoms, panels, hydrostatics, centres and fabrication outputs.
- Reject unsafe shortening that would cause control points to cross or reverse.
- Apply the complete transformation as a single reversible Undo step.
- Duplicate the project first, allowing dimensional variations to be explored without altering the original design.

These features make it possible to explore different hull lengths late in the design process while preserving the work already invested in the hull’s shape, references and construction geometry. #boat #design
