If the magnet undergoes a quench that is dumping its cryogenic coolant it can if they safety system fails create a "quench-pressurization entrapment mechanism" especially if the door as most do open in not out.
Thats where the brick comes in. Since there is not metal in the scan room you can hurl it through the control room window to vent and escape
