It's a terrible time in American politics, because we can't expect rationality, and we can't identify a path back.
Don't get me wrong, I know America has done some dumb and ignoble things in the past, but even those had to pass a bar. Policy, for most of my life, had to be arguably rational. There had to be some kind of rationale.
It wasn't "let's close the Straits of Hormuz because .. we haven't really thought about it"
