The crazy thing is, that when you design things to make them better for disabled people, they also get better for everyone else...because everyone is really just temporarily "able" and spend periods of their life not fully able. When you are a child, a parent, or old, systems designed for the fully abled don't work for you. If you are encumbered with luggage, or have a broken leg, same thing.
There are many blind spots (pun intended) in the study of politics, but as David Alexander (UGlasgow) points out the relative lack of understanding of the optimal dimensions of disability & how disability may shift the frame of understanding politics remains a significant absence in much political analysis....
The real world consequences are around us in the relative under-emphasis of disability in everyday politics in the UK.
