1. Russian spies exploit Zimbra flaw to steal 90 days of email
-- U.S. and allied cyber agencies said the Russian state-backed group LAUNDRY BEAR is compromising Western government and commercial organizations through a Zimbra flaw patched in November 2025.
-- The view-only exploit creates an immediate security risk for unpatched webmail: one opened message can expose 90 days of communications and enable persistent account access.

2. EU renews online child-abuse scanning exemption
-- The EU Council adopted a renewed interim exemption from e-Privacy rules that permits communications providers to voluntarily detect and report child sexual abuse material online.
-- The temporary privacy-policy exemption keeps private-message scanning legally available while lawmakers negotiate permanent rules, prolonging uncertainty for encrypted-messaging providers and users.

3. SEC begins preparations for round-the-clock U.S. stock trading
-- The SEC will hold a public roundtable on September 17 covering overnight trading, operational resilience, investor protections and the expansion of U.S. equities toward a 24-hour market.
-- Continuous trading would give global investors faster access but force brokers, exchanges and clearing systems to manage liquidity and failures during hours that currently serve as maintenance windows.
