Drift Protocol lost ~$280M in a sophisticated exploit using a novel persistent nonce attack & social engineering. Attackers gained admin control of the Drift Security Council by obtaining 2/5 multi-sig approvals. They created 4 persistent nonce accounts, with 2 controlled by them and 2 linked to multi-sig members. Attack prep started Mar 23, execution Apr 1. Lending, treasury, and trading funds were affected. DSOL assets not deposited & insurance funds are safe. Drift has frozen all functions & updated its multi-sig wallet to remove compromised accounts.
