One detail from Sunday’s Gospel worth sitting with. Matthew 14:22–33: Jesus could have calmed the storm from the mountain. He could see them making headway painfully from his place of prayer. He chose instead to walk into the middle of it, into the same wind, toward the same waves. He was not content to help from a safe distance.
