Sarah O'Connor (FT) suggests the best way of framing the uses, danger & regulation of social media may be to look at the history of smoking; a gradual tightening of regulatory limits on smoking has (especially among the middle-class) led to radical reductions of tobacco use.
We're already seeing the start of such moves with the interest in banning young people from using social media due to the (increasingly recognised) harms it causes; Will be interesting to see if she's right.
