#WritersCoffeeClub Apr. 28: How magical is your work?
I would have to say "very." If we're talking about the experience of doing it, the fact a story can simply flow onto a page is pretty magical.
If we're talking about the content, then most of it has magic outright, what doesn't usually has psi, and even my hard sci-fi, *The Temperature of Space*, owes its story to Ethan time traveling with no reasonable explanation. That gets... well, Ethan gets what feels to him like a satisfying explanation in the sequels, but the reader doesn't, at least not yet. XD
Magic isn't a bad thing. Really, my go-to explanation is that magic, psi, even prayer all ultimately lead to playing with probability. There's no such thing as a 0% chance. There's a chance YOU could wake up 50 years hence! It's not a HIGH chance, but it's not 0%. Once you have that, you can play with pathways. Emotion, ritual, faith, sheer willpower, even physical sensations can seal the deal.
