writing a book won't influence your public positions like working for an advocacy group does.
this is like finding out that the guy who says global warming is a real problem gets paid by a group who needs people who think it's a problem to give them money to exist. maybe he'd be saying it anyway but he also knows publicly changing his mind will mean losing that money. and freaking everybody out more will mean more money.
