I think the politicians assume that AI will be like biotech, that it will give us another nerdy speciality quaternary sector with startup companies and collaboration with universities and suchlike. In reality it is going to be a bit like hosting a US airbase. Except with no staff, so you don't even get to sell beer and crisps to them at the weekend.
