I think many people cannot conceive of what has happened to them. It is literally as if they are living in an impossible circumstance. And so they don't have any idea what to do.
Like, what would I do if Godzilla came walking down the street, breathing fire? Well, I'd stare and point and get stepped on, because what's happening simply cannot happen. I think that's what this guy is going through.
Many of us can very well conceive of this murder and have thought through the possibility and our reaction to it.
