In consequence nations across the world, including the United States, neglected their domestic energy resources to import Middle East oil. This resulted in a little bit of a problem in the 70s as OPEC nations rested control over pricing and production from the west. The fallout of the 1973 resulted in a complete rework of energy efficiency, particularly in Asia and Europe.
