They're just extremely loyal to parties whose power was vested only by the "meta" of first-past-the-post. It's scary to them that their precious (D)'s and (R)'s are now on equal footing to dozens of other parties.
Hopefully the system can last at least a couple decades for people to get used to RCV, and the smaller parties to win some seats.
