#WritersCoffeeClub Apr. 21: What's a (*maybe silly*) hill you're willing to defend?
Posting this a bit early because it seems copypasta has taken one person's error a day forward.
And I will straight-up die on the hill of writing for yourself. You can write something for an audience and that audience will only demand you write more for them. At what point is it even your story anymore? Toxic fandom starts at the inflection point between "I like this" and "I own this."
Writing for yourself may be an audience of one, but that one is the person who actually has a right to own it. If other people join that circle, awesome. It has found its people. But those people are flocking to you and if you ever stop being the center of that circle, you've screwed up.
