A Mother's Love Never Gives Up
I became a solo mom when my youngest son was only one year old. Today, my two boys are 12 and 13 years old, and they are the reason I continue to fight every single day.
When I found myself raising my children alone, I made a promise that I would stand on my own feet. I never asked my ex for financial support because I wanted to prove to myself that, no matter how difficult life became, I would do everything I could for my sons.
I started different small businesses just to earn enough money for our daily needs. There were days when I traveled from one factory to another, hoping someone would buy the products I was selling. I carried a heavy bag full of goods on my back, and when my three-year-old son became too tired to walk, I carried him in my arms too. Every step was painful, but I kept going because every peso I earned meant food on our table and milk for my youngest son.
Looking back, I sometimes believe those years of carrying heavy bags every day may have caused the scoliosis I have today.
There were many nights when I cried and silently asked myself, "Why did my life turn out this way?" But every morning, I wiped away my tears, smiled, and continued because my children needed a strong mother.
One memory still breaks my heart.
It was Christmas Eve, and it was raining hard. While other families were together at home preparing for Noche Buena, I was outside delivering orders of puto. Deep inside, I wished I was home celebrating Christmas with my boys. I remember looking at the happy families around me and wondering what it felt like to have a complete family again. I prayed that maybe one day, God would also bless us with brighter days.
Even after everything I had been through, I never stopped dreaming.
Years later, I applied for a job abroad. When I learned that I had been accepted, I cried tears of joy. I finally believed that my sons would have a better future. I completed all the requirements, passed every step, received my visa, and thought our lives were finally about to change.
But during my medical examination, everything fell apart.
The doctor told me that I had scoliosis and that I was no longer qualified to work abroad.
I couldn't believe it.
I had already completed all my documents. My visa was ready. The dream I had worked so hard for disappeared in just one moment.
I asked myself, "Why is it that every time I get close to a better life, something takes it away?"
I cried, but I never blamed God.
Instead, I held on to my faith. I believe that everything happens for a reason, even if I don't understand it right now. Maybe God has a different plan for me and my two boys.
There were many times when I wanted to give up. I felt tired, lonely, and broken. But every time I looked at my sons, I found another reason to keep going. They are the reason I wake up every morning. They are my strength, my hope, and my greatest blessing.
People often see me smiling and laughing. They think I'm always happy. What they don't see are the tears I cry when I'm alone. I hide my pain because I don't want others to see how much I struggle. I choose to smile, not because life is easy, but because I don't want my children to carry my sadness.
My greatest dream is simple. I want my two boys to grow up to be kind, responsible men and finish their education. I may not be able to give them a perfect life, but I will never stop giving them my unconditional love and my very best.
As I write this story, I can't stop myself from crying. The tears keep falling as I remember everything my two boys and I have been through. It still hurts deep in my heart, but at the same time, writing these words brings me comfort. It reminds me of how far we've come and how, despite everything, we never gave up.
Being a solo parent is the hardest journey I have ever walked, but it has also shown me how strong a mother's love can be.
To every solo parent who is silently carrying heavy burdens, please don't lose hope. Our tears may fall in silence, but our love speaks louder than our pain. One day, our children will understand every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every prayer, and every battle we fought for them.
As for me, I will continue to fight, because my story is not finished yet. I still believe that God is writing a beautiful ending for me and my two boys.
