lately I just keep thinking how stagnant power metal is, because bands like Sabaton and Powerwolf that I listened to in the early 2010s used to have albums and songs that were more varied, and then they settled into a groove and keep making the same song over and over
Chris from Alestorm put it well that when he tried to break the rut and make things more interesting, people started crying and demanding more catchy slop about pirates so he gave up and settled on making that. it makes sense when power metal is big enough to make a living playing it, but I feel like the biggest names of the genre are just too scared of killing the golden goose
