Depends. Do you want people with slow connections to be able to browse your galleries? How about people using phones who don't have unlimited data plans and have to pay for data? (Like me.) Or people in developing countries that don't have a fast connection? Or people using phones in rural areas?
FWIW, on my DSL connection, with this number of images I can see the images loading, but they only take a few seconds. A longer page might be annoying, though.
