Someone help my retard ass out.

These springs require that the inside diameter of the spring be free of obstructions so that it can compress the inner wraps of coil, right? In other words, a dowel attached to the inside of the spring must have a smaller outer diameter than the inner diameter of the spring, right? Or does the middle not compress?

What would happen if the center dowel was on bearings (it spun)?

Would low-friction material attached to the entire length of the spring still work?
