To be clear, I don't really do this as much as I used to, but I do acknowledge that I did this a whole lot before. I think it's a power play, like the 'I know a lot more of this than you do', but how productive it is? Not so much.
My woman really helped me through this phase, even tho it was somewhat painful for me.
At the same time, I think the opposite end is somewhat also a power struggle, that people hold on to the belief that the mainstream is correct, because it would open up too much if people could so easily form other opinions. So this end of the critic is forced by the fear of opening up the framework of control in society. Well, this is just ramblings on my part, but I sort of get this from one of my friends. And this sort of shuts him down, in the sense of listening to the arguments/points presented to him.
