Brian May abandoned his PhD study in astrophysics in 1974 to become a full time musician on the success of Queen.
Over 30 years later, the subject of his thesis had still not been very much researched by others and he was able to complete and submit it in 2007.
There is still so much more meaningful things to do than anyone has the time and funding for.
