Artificially cheap due to Chinese government policy and sub-spec build. The same models exported to Europe cost more than double because they have to upgrade the vehicle to EU standards and fit larger more expensive long range batteries.

I'm in Australia and they are selling BYD like hot cakes here due to fuel prices going sky high thanks to Iran but the "cheap" BYDs are crap. For the cost of the higher end BYD you can buy a Tesla and get autopilot to boot. Chinese EVs even look cheap. The finish is terrible compared to Japanese or even a Telsla.

> Those inexpensive cars are also cheap because they make do with small batteries, and the range numbers are based on China’s CLTC test. That bears little resemblance to the EPA’s testing, which remains the closest approximation of real-world efficiency for EVs.

Chinese vehicles are cheap for a reason. They are rubbish, The battery range is nowhere near what is claimed and then once they land as a full volume import the price is not that much cheaper than local brands or full volume Jap imports.
