The more obvious an answer is, the more likely it is to be labelled as "silly", in the sense that the questioner presumably already knew that, so it indicates a lack of common sense in not taking that into account.
Conversely, John gives a much less obvious and much more insightful answer, which is more in the direction of something that a questioner would not already know.
