To be fair, I'm not sure any alternatives were tried so it's unknown if they would have fared better.
I hold the position that Outlook has been unusable as an email client for 30 years running but that doesn't mean the others would have worked in that particular scenario. … unless of course one of the astronauts was using something different and the press ignored it.
