The BA.3.2 #COVID19 variant (nicknamed Cicada) has been getting increasing attention from virus hunters. It is growing slowly globally and has just been named a Variant Under Monitoring by WHO.

The reason it's getting attention is that it is the first non-Omicron variant to get some traction in years. It developed in a chronically-infected person with 50 spike mutations, rather than from the small mutations that occur as a virus passes from one person to the next. 1/2
