extremely condensed version: Nigel Farage is a far right "politician" whose acceptance of dodgy donations finally caught up with him and an investigation was launched into his finances. He decided to step down as an MP, triggering a new election in his constituency, and stand again, treating the whole thing as a public referendum on his fitness for office. No one has ever tried this before and it's a loophole that should probably be closed seeing as the resultant election cost public finances an estimated £350m to run. All the mainstream parties refused to run in the election saying it was a farce and shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
