Most users don't need to buy a hardware wallet, and probably shouldn't. Don't let the marketing and influencers sway you.
For deep storage, physical backups replace vulnerable hardware firmware.
Keep these two components, optionally along with their qr codes.
1. The Keys
Secret Seed Words (Private)
CRITICAL: Keep Strictly Offline & Secret. This unlocks your coins. If anyone gets these words, your coins are gone. Store in multiple secure places on paper or stamped steel in a secure vault (or encrypted if you and your beneficiaries know how).
Example 12-word seed phrase:

2. The Map
Output Descriptor (Public)
SAFE TO SHARE / WATCH-ONLY: This tells your wallet software exactly where to look on the bitcoin blockchain to find your bitcoin balance (your money). Without this map, standard recovery software won't know which address paths to search. Keep with your inheritance papers.
