I do feel a bit sorry for some of the attendees, because permanent eye and skin tissue damage is a rather disproportionate punishment for being an NFT bro. there is still a certain sense of "play silly games get silly prizes" though, given the demonstrably terrible judgement of everyone involved.
I've certainly got no sympathy for the organisers and I think they should be held liable for criminal negligence.
