oh geez! so your houses in WA didn't have wall clock plugins in the kitchen near the top of one wall? that is SUCH a typical thing out here - any house built around 1950 has a little recessed cubby-hole on the wall - about 20x20cm with an electrical outlet. it was made so the clock would fit flush against the wall, plug in, and be able to coil up the cord inside behind it.
