‘The idea of an “intelligence explosion” may be misleading because it focuses too narrowly on intelligence itself.

A better comparison is the Industrial Revolution. Calling it a “horsepower explosion” would technically capture one part of what happened — a huge increase in physical power — but it would miss the bigger picture.

The Industrial Revolution was driven by many connected changes at once:

* advances in agriculture
* better transportation
* changes in law and finance
* urbanization
* new ways of organizing labor, production, and society

Raw horsepower mattered, but it was not the whole story.

Similarly, with AI, the future will not be shaped only by “smarter AI systems.” Intelligence will be one important piece, but the real transformation will come from many interacting changes across technology, economics, institutions, infrastructure, and society.’
