That is surprising. I always found Rodinal very good and easy to print. It’s just the grain I'm not too keen on.
Having said that, the film and the developer do greatly influence how a negative prints in the darkroom. I spent today in the printing the pulled HP5 film. It went rather well. Typically needed the equivalent of grade 2.2 to 2.5. The 2.2 is the equivalent grade derived from split grade printing.
