Capsaicin tends to work on mammals but not birbs, and birbs don't go after peppers much in my experience, so it's a good plant. Peppers take a while but they're always very reliable for me even though I'm not in an optimal climate. This is the first year I got peppers like a southerner and they actually started in early summer and I've been harvesting every day for months.
