Not necessarily fear that the man will hurt them, though even a weak man is typically stronger than the average woman, but fear that he will be a burden: an adult child they must care for.
Women are genetically predisposed to follow up their fear with a strong disgust response to that level of uselessness.
Women find useless men disgusting.
