I'd have probably tanked it too, but I'd have at least gone looking around the economics department of the local university for some people who knew what they were doing. Bit of paid consultancy for them, bit of landmine mapping for me... But then they'd have to force me into job like that, and recover me from whichever country I'd flown off to.
