GEO Group trying to argue that because they contract with DHS they're basically inseparable from them is a slippery, problematic slope.
Advocacy and Media literacy moment:
What would help stories like this is a link to the GEO filing. These filings are public and absolutely necessary for the public to see -- at the very least. Do better, NPR.
The filings also contain key arguments and interpretations of the law. For advocates, they indicate where there may be gaps that need to be filled in future amendments.
Having a link to the filing also gives advocates ammunition for media strategy and direct/grassroots action.
Anyway, GEO Group is trying to escape *any* accountability. Rogue contractors is not what communities need.
