When you start a trade on Mostro 🧌, the first thing that happens is Lightning generates a hold invoice.
What's that? An invoice that locks the seller's sats without collecting them yet.
They sit there, on hold, until the buyer confirms the fiat payment and the seller verifies it. Only then does Lightning release them ⚡
If something goes wrong before that confirmation, the sats return to the seller automatically.
That's the mechanism that makes custody-free P2P exchange possible. The protocol coordinates. Nobody touches the funds.
