So I learned something about #StarfleetAcademy that I should have known, I guess?

It's mentioned that Tilly has been off in the beta quadrant with "third year cadets", and I didn't question it at the time.

But subsequent episode discussion made me notice it and realize I've misunderstood a basic concept about the series.

I was under the impression this is the Academy finally returning after 'The Burn' (like 100+ years), and this was the first class of that triumphant restart.

Meanwhile, the War College is what replaced it, focusing on more practical skills (combat, tactics, defense), versus science/exploratory/diplomatic/starship operations.

And now that we're post-Burn with everything clawing it's way back to normality, this was bringing the Academy back.

BUT APPARENTLY NOT.

I guess it's the Academy's return to San Francisco, specifically? Which, to be honest, I find a lot less compelling.

I mean, I guess it hasn't changed anything about the show, really. But it sure removes some of the stakes I imagined were present.

Like, I assumed there was a bit of a 'test' at play in the background -- the need to prove the Academy is still important to have after it's long absence, and so forth.

But I guess not. That was a surprise. :P
