A reminder for anyone who has a clothes dryer in their home... be sure to clean (or hire someone to clean) the exhaust vent regularly. And it's not a bad idea to clean the inside of the machine once in a while too.
Judging by the burnt lint and awful smell, there was very likely a small fire inside my dryer, fortunately it did not spread.
