You may be right that the time for technical discussions is over. Most people are entrenched in their ideas. If that is the case, then the more productive thing to do now would be to advocate for everyone to run a node and signal their intent one way or the other. If there is a chain split, so be it. Everyone gets both coins and can simply see how it plays out...
But if either camp are to survive long term as Bitcoin... we cannot tear each other apart to get to the top of that hill just to have the powers who run fiat world simply let the dust settle and come down from their mountain to squash those that remain. There is much more terrain to climb and we can only kamakazi ourselves so many times.
