I don't know enough to know how severely to judge him. At the very least he was arrogant and negligent. At the worst he was complicit, though I doubt that.
As far as how to treat such a person: are there people in your life who are arrogant and negligent, but whom you haven't completely written off? That's good, because that means you have learned to forgive.
I haven't been wronged, so I have nothing to forgive. Am I prepared to trust NVK? Well, that depends on what the object of the trust is. I probably won't be using my coldcard again. But I haven't seen anything so far that indicates his heart isn't in the right place. And if this was an honest mistake, he won't repeat it, and he will learn humility.
Everyone is talking about responsibility and culpability right now, but no one is talking about grace. The fact is, we all need it, because we all screw up in very significant ways. Jesus says "pray for your enemies" and "whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also." If you want that kind of grace to be extended to you, you must extend it to others. Jesus also says that this is how we are to pray: "forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
