Does anyone ask why #Musk wants to be the first to send people to Mars? In his interviews, he says that he wants to do it "for humanity" or whatever.
The way I see it, he wants to go just because. Perhaps he has been fascinated with the Red Planet since he was a boy and now he wants to be the first one to get there. Just like he wanted to be the first to "solve" completely autonomous driving, which he hasn't yet accomplished.
