Employers love non-compete clauses (NCCs) as they think it protects their competitive advantage(s) by ensuring other firms cannot hire away staff to gain knowledge of approaches & practices that lie behind as firm's success.
But, as some economists worry that capitalism's dynamic of 'creative destruction' has been weakened by entrenched advantages of incumbents, Sarah O'Connor (FT) rightly wonders if NCCs are part of the problem.
It looks like a collective action problem to me...
