When RZD ran Paris-Moscow train, at Brest (Belarus) not only bogies changes from standard gauge to russian gauge, but the couplers had to be changed from the manual european to the russian ones that are similar to north american couplers, those not accepted in europe. (But Europe has plenty of Scharfengerg couplers which are not only automatic but also bridge power/data/brake pressure automatically but those only between train sets, not between cars.
