Red Brakes at the Edge
This image shows a Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) just arriving, landing at the edge of the bird feeder in the center of my yard. Its wings are raised and angled back, providing reverse thrust—braking mid-motion to keep from overshooting the edge.
