you're missing the nuance of how this would work. and the advertising model has both personal and social costs we don't think about.
ads generally help the businesses already doing well enough to pay for them. and when you're deciding between two similar products, the ad supported one will probably win but had to cut costs somewhere. it's worse.
it's also built on data mining. and it supports news misleading us for their business owners and advertisers. and political ads.
