One income household and you fucked. Can't get a mortgage and if you can, the houses are still too expensive. Renting in the private sector is just heartbreakingly expensive. Social housing goes primarily toward "refugees" who then sublet these houses for insane amounts of money. There really isn't an alternative, but to stay with parents honestly.
And again, up until recently (when considering human history) multi generational homes were the standard.
