My life became much more compelling when it was clear we were all living under a magic spell. I would say that magic spell can best be summarized as, "This life is what matters most." It is the whole of modernity explained in one simple phrase.
The truth is, the next life is what matters most.
If you can let go of intense feelings of ownership, and (most importantly) let go of judging other people, you can avoid the anxiety that worldly things bring and the worship of power.
