My world just fully stopped making sense.

My laptop failed to boot. Error message: Hard drive not installed.

After an hour and a half of hysterically sobbing about maybe having lost months of writing etc and struggling to get the fucking thing open so I can pull out the drive to test on another machine, I finally get it open and um...

There is no hard drive.

There's the little clear plastic cover neatly in place, with a strip of tape on it holding extra screws. And the plug for the hard drive cable, taped down to the plate on the motherboard where the hard drive SHOULD be. The tape is a little yellowed and curling with age, and looks like it's been like that for a long time.
